The 411: We’re popping up inside the iconic Battersea Power Station
Our three-day market will run over Bank Holiday weekend from Saturday 27th - Monday 29th May.
As South Londoners ourselves, we are so proud, thrilled and honoured to announce that we will be popping up inside the one and only Battersea Power Station!
It honestly feels wild to say that! It’s a project we’ve been working on all year and it’s been so difficult to keep a secret! We’ve wanted to shout it from the rooftops every single day.
We grew up around South London and Surrey, so Battersea Power Station is a building we’ve been past literally thousands of times on every single journey into Victoria station. The portal to an exciting new world we couldn’t wait to be a part of. As children it was our signal that we were almost in town and about to start an exciting day of adventures in London with our nan and grandad. As teenagers, it was a striking beacon we saw on our way to boat parties, fashion shows and gigs with friends. As twenty-somethings it was the friendly face that welcomed us as we moved full time to the city.
Our parents grew up in South London and worked in and around the city, so growing up we had lots of conversations about London and heard stories from their own childhoods. I’ve heard a lot about what it was like in the 80s and 90s, and how it’s changed! From these conversations we both took an active interest in the area, its buildings, history and people, so as the discussion on Battersea Power Station’s future began and the chance to visit the building came up which we jumped on it! Liv and our Dad went along to an open day at the building (this was literally years ago!) to learn more about plans for its future and we were all excited hear what new role the building would play in the lives of Londoners. When it opened last summer we were some of the first people to visit, with our two best friends Emma and Cara, to see how it had been reimagined. Earlier this year I visited with my family-in-law to go up in Lift 109 which is actually built inside one of the chimneys! From the top you can see the most incredible view of London. And later this year we even took our Nana Joan, who’s lived in South London for the past 60 years, to the Power Station’s cool bar, Control Room B which is actually built around the original control room, for cocktails. We used to take it in turns to stand on the loo in her back bathroom at her house in Sutton and look out the window at the colossal South London city skyline so it felt special to visit together 25 years later!
It’s safe to say this iconic building has been in the backdrop of our lives over the past 30 years. She’s part of our London story! Now to be back there with our own small business feels like a real full-circle moment and we keep having to pinch ourselves to believe its true. We’re getting ourselves emotional just thinking about it! Little us, looking up at her four striking towers, would never believe we’d achieve this.
So what’s the event going to be? Let me leave my trip down memory lane long enough to tell you! Doing what we do best, we’ll be popping up at Battersea Power Station for a three-day small business shopping event. We’ll be bringing more than 30 of the UK’s most exciting small brands there so you can shop with them all in one place. As well as a focus on small businesses from South London itself, we’ll also have other makers from all over the country, giving you an exciting chance to see and shop all their products together.
We’ll all be popping up on the ground floor of Turbine Hall B, right next to the cinema and the divine cocktail bar I mentioned earlier. We’ll be there for three days over the Bank Holiday weekend, from Saturday 27th May to Monday 29th May, from 10am - 6pm each day. We’ll cover a real variety of product areas including handmade jewellery, art, ceramics, fashion, beauty, and for the first time ever, delicious deli products! Our makers will be working hard to create new products available exclusively to our pop-up.
This is a huge moment for our small business, and we really hope to see you there!
